What we offer – Fundraising
$ 1.9 million for protection and management of the Bijagós in Guinea Bissau
The Bijagós Archipelago in Guinea Bissau is an exceptional site with numerous endangered and emblematic species, a diversity of critical habitats and high biological productivity. It is the second most important site for water birds and the first nesting site for green turtles in Africa. But important parts of this archipel are not yet protected. The Rainforest Trust will fund a 5-year project ($ 1.8 million) developed by PRCM and Van Marwijk Advies to increase the Bijagós protected area, and protect its mangroves, sacred islands and sites. The partners will establish an effective governance mechanism for the sea area that will become a reserved fishing zone for its local fishers.
